Set up by a team of cycling enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Bike 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.
We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. cycling) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
Day 1 will see Rita start of bright and early from Crystal Palace heading south on route to the coast. Rita will pass through rural Kent before reaching the white cliffs of Dover to get the ferry to Calais. Rita will cover approx. 95 miles on her first day.
On day 2 Rita will be cycling from Calais to Abbeville covering approx. 75 miles and then day 3 will see Rita follow the river Somme out of Abbeville, finishing the day in Beauvais after travelling for approx. 70 miles.
Day 4 the final day of Rita and Evie's adventure will see them cycle approx. 60 miles to Paris!
Commenting on her challenge:
"Rita (Dingwall) and her trusted bike ‘Evie’ will be cycling from London to Paris from the 20th - 23rd July 2016 to raise funds for 4 deserving charities in celebration of Rita’s 60th birthday! These charities are Bike 4 Cancer (In memory of our many friends taken too soon), Grassroots Suicide Prevention (In memory of Jona McCann), Age Concern Heathfield & District (Mum’s request) and the East Neuk Wheelchair Appeal (A charity John & I have supported in Scotland for many years). If you are able to support this challenging cycle ride (First day - 95 miles!) by donating and digging deep for these causes, it would be very much appreciated - just a few pounds will help."
