Set up by a team of cycling enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Bike 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.
We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. cycling) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
The 100-mile course follows the exact route used for the 2012 Olympic Road Race and starts in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park then follows a 100-mile route on closed roads which will be lined with thousands of spectators.
The route will see Kevin cycling past famous landmarks as he leaves London before crossing into Surrey's stunning countryside.
With some leg testing climbs along the way, the ride finishes on The Mall in central London.
"I’m so excited to be taking part in this year’s RideLondon Surrey 100 event. As many of you will know this isn’t something I can do alone due to being visually impaired. So a big thank you to my guide; Christian Buckley for agreeing to pilot our tandem of triumph and help me raise as much money as possible for this fantastic charity.
Cancer has touched my life as well as the lives of so many close family and friends. It is in memory of those who have lost the battle against cancer and in honour of all those who have won their battle that I do this. So please, anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support."
“I'm really looking forward to doing the RideLondon with Kevin for a number of good reasons, firstly the charity! Having many friends and family affected by cancer especially my sister in law who is currently fighting cancer (soft tissue sarcoma - diagnosed aged 28) this feel like a perfect opportunity to make a positive contribution. Also having just turned 40 I wanted a good challenge and this ride will be a great way to achieve that with the added bonus of raising money for such a good cause. Neither Kevin or myself had previously ridden a tandem and being able to complete this ride will be a tremendous achievement for us both (and also a whole lot of fun too!)”
Please sponsor Kevin and Christian and leave your words of encouragement below. Thank you.
