Set up by a team of cycling enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Bike 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.
We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. cycling) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
The 100-mile course follows the exact route used for the 2012 Olympic Road Race and starts in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park then follows a 100-mile route on closed roads which will be lined with thousands of spectators.
The route will see Edward cycling past famous landmarks as he leaves London before crossing into Surrey's stunning countryside.
With some leg testing climbs along the way, the ride finishes on The Mall in central London.
'A very close friend of mine, Debbie, has had a very hard past couple of years, losing her parents, and then being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. After a mastectomy treatment, she underwent several sessions of chemotherapy treatment. Fortunately, all the signs at this stage are positive and she is starting to recuperate and rebuild her life with her 2 daughters. 2016 we hope will bring her the all clear, but the doubt always remains.
Your support for Debbie and the many thousands like her will continue to take the fight to the 'C' word. I want to have the opportunity to enjoy the challenge of cycling 100 miles knowing we have all done our bit. Thank you very much for your support and every little bit helps. Ed'
