Set up by a team of cycling enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Bike 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.
We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. cycling) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
Starting on Clapham Common, the route travels through Mitcham, Carshalton, Chipstead, Banstead and Haywards Heath before finishing in front of Brighton Pier.
Mark will have to tackle the fearsome Ditchling Beacon at the end of the 58 mile route - the highest point in East Sussex at 814 feet above sea level!
Commenting on his challenge Mark said:
They say that things come in threes and I have three very personal reasons to bike for cancer. My Mum, my Granny and my Girlfriend. Plus cycling from London to Brighton makes a good reason for me to get a little more in shape!
Bike for cancer is a cancer respite charity with a sporting focus.They support research into the positive effects of exercise examining how it can help prevent cancer and assist in recovery post diagnosis. This is an extremely worthy cause and I have seen how beneficial exercise can be to those who are wrestling with this devastating disease.
