Set up by a team of cycling enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Bike 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.
We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. cycling) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
Starting on Clapham Common, the route travels through Mitcham, Carshalton, Chipstead, Banstead and Haywards Heath before finishing in front of Brighton Pier.
The Cyclepaths will have to climb the fearsome Ditchling Beacon at the end of the 54 mile route - the highest point in East Sussex at 814 feet above sea level!
Commenting on their challenge, team Cyclepaths said:
"On a Brighton sunny day in September the Cyclepaths- aka Morgan, Kate and Kirk - are riding from London to Brighton. We’re geared up, but we will be wheely tyred and need to raise at least £450 to participate, so please oil up your chain-ge and dig deep to help us pedal to the finish line.
In all seriousness, we are doing this mad and crazy act of endurance in memory of Kirk’s Mum Maureen Morrant who sadly died of cancer in 2015. The money we raise will be donated to Bike 4 Cancer, a charity which supports hospices, research initiatives and families who have been affected by cancer.
Thank you for any donation you are able to make- we are very appreciative!"
