He intends to cycle from St Albans to the centre of Paris (350 Km) in just two and a half days to raise funds for Brainwave and Bike 4 Cancer.
Jon plans to set off from St Albans on Thursday 25th September, cycle through London and finish up in Newhaven (164km). On the Friday he will catch the ferry to Dieppe, cycle 100 km to Beauvais before the final stretch to Eiffel Tower on Saturday (a leisurely 80 km)!
In my desire to get fit, I bought a bike. Then a couple of mates said they were on a charity ride to Paris and I commented that I would have liked to have done it too. Within within hours of my suggestion someone dropped out. So, I had my place...
Aside from having some fun and getting fit, we'll be raising money for two fantastic charities: Brainwave and Bike 4 Cancer.
As an added incentive (or not!), I will give to the highest donor a table at the 'Bowled over Lunch' at Edgbaston with Michael Vaughan and other special guests (Friday 10 October). This is a three course lunch for 10 guests.
Many thanks for donating!
Jon
Brainwave helps children with disabilities and additional needs to achieve greater independence. Brainwave help children with a range of conditions including autism, brain injuries such as cerebral palsy and genetic conditions such as Down's Syndrome.
Set up by a team of cycling enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Bike 4 Cancer provides respite breaks for British families affected by cancer. We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. cycling) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
