Set up by a team of cycling enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Bike 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.
We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. cycling) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
Starting on Clapham Common, the route travels through Mitcham, Carshalton, Chipstead, Banstead and Haywards Heath before finishing in front of Brighton Pier.
Gary and Nick will have to tackle the fearsome Ditchling Beacon at the end of the 58 mile route - the highest point in East Sussex at 814 feet above sea level!
"In 2011 I was diagnosed with having an Mucoepidermoid carcinoma tumour in my right lung. This resulted in myself having half my right lung removed. This caused massive knockon effects to my life style, wellbeing and career. I got medically discharged from the Royal Navy, suffered depression and it was a major contribution in the breakdown of my marriage. I found the lack of support for my family was not there and a charity like Bike 4 Cancer can go along away to helping those who need it the most. Supporting cancer charities is close to my heart and I recently ran the great south run for cancer research."
