Bike 4 Cancer Executive Committee

Andy Nicholson
Like so many people, Andy has known a lot of people who have been affected by cancer. His own mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2013 - luckily her treatment has been a success thanks to excellent health care. A keen off-road cyclist, Andy mistrusts people in Lycra and prefers to wear baggy clothing when out on his bike (joke!). Andy lives in Petersfield with his young family and can often be found cycling along the South Downs Way or around Queen Elizabeth Country Park in Hampshire.

Andy Hayward
Andy's love of cycling started with the arrival of his first BMX when he was 9 years old. Aged 13, Andy discovered track cycling, attending Herne Hill Velodrome's Youth sessions every Saturday morning. At the age of 16, Andy started work as a bike mechanic at Allin Cycles in Croydon, rubbing shoulders with legends such as John Hutt and Cliff Shrubb. It wasn't long though before Andy's BMX roots saw him on a mountain bike. Andy went on to compete as a supported rider (Kona) at races all over the UK - back in the days when mountain bikes had no suspension and Campag produced MTB groupsets! Although Andy still prefers to ride off-road, he has just bought his first road bike in 20 years. Andy lost his dad to cancer in 1999.
