Elliott swaps Bowling for Biking to raise funds for teenagers with cancer

THEY DID IT!

With a head wind - in a gruelling 5 1/2 hours!

Bike 4 Cancer - About Us

Set up by a team of cycling enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Bike 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.

We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. cycling) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.

14 year old Elliott Spindley has chosen a challenge for himself to raise funds for Bike 4 Cancer.

On Sunday March 16th, he will cycle from his school, St Lawrence Academy in Scunthorpe to Sheffield (a total of 50 miles).

Elliott explains:

"As part of my life I want to help and support people as much as I can; I am very lucky to be in good health and have a good life. I can go to school, take part in sports and do lots of things which sometimes people can take for granted.

I don't have lots of money to give to charity, but I do have time and a supporting mother to help me achieve my dreams. I want to help not only children but teenagers achieve their dreams whatever they may be , I want to raise money to help cancer patients do what I do every day and try and make their journey in life HAPPIER."

A very determined young man, Elliott had a dream himself - to represent England in his chosen sport, ten pin bowling. In July 2013 he achieved this, and was chosen to go with the Junior England Team and represent England in Vienna at the World Sports Festival 2013. This was more than a dream come true as Elliott won Silver Medal in U14 Singles.

Hopefully this determination will help him in his new challenge. The money Elliott raises through his sponsored cycle will be used to offer respite to youngsters living with the effects of cancer, boosting their confidence and self esteem and generally giving the opportunity to have some fun at a very difficult time. As Elliott says: "Being ill shouldn't stop kids doing the stuff they dream of; I want to help ... so please help me help them !"
