Set up by a team of cycling enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Bike 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.
We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. cycling) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
On Saturday the 15th July 2017, long time Bike 4 Cancer supporter and ambassador Richard Groome, will embark on a bike race like no other with more recent ambassador Graeme Hilditch and also their good friend Tom Payne!
This won't be the first time for Rich as he piloted the event back in 2015, however for Graeme and Tom it will be the toughest challenge they have ever undertaken as they will be riding through the day and night for up to 24 hours.
Called Bike vs Boat, the race will see the guys race two teams of sailors from London Bridge in Central London all the way to Brighton Marina.
The guys will travel via the longest possible coastal route which measures 324 Kms (201.4 land miles).
What's more they will have to climb 2658 metres over the course distance or the equivalent of 2 and a bit times up Snowdon.
By comparison, the sailors on two Sunsail F40 racing yachts will be sailing the shortest possible route, winds and tides permitting.
They are expected to cover about 180 nautical miles which should mean they cross the finish line in under 24 hours.
