4 Cancer Group offered respite to RECORD NUMBER of people in 2014

In 2014, 4 Cancer Group offered respite to 468 people living with cancer for a total of 2078 "respite days"- days when these families and individuals could forget hospitals, treatment, appointments - could forget cancer altogether for a short while and concentrate on quality time instead. These are record numbers for the charity - a 19% increase over our previous record. We have now impacted over 3,000 people for a total of nearly 13,000 respite days since the charity's inception in 2001.

We consider ourselves an inclusive charity - our oldest patient this year was 78 years old, our youngest was just 19 months. We helped families from all over the UK - Cornwall to Fife and from North Wales to Kent; and the diagnoses ranged from the most prevalent forms of cancer through to the very rare. Sadly a larger number than usual had a terminal diagnosis, and several families had recently been bereaved through cancer. Many were also struggling with financial hardship as a result of their diagnosis.

We know that our respite opportunities really do make a huge difference to people's lives:

"4 Cancer Group gave my son his spirit and confidence back after a tough year battling cancer and operations. It was a unique opportunity that we would never have been able to have given ourselves and has given our son something to look forward to for the future. THANK YOU" Mum of Jedd, age 14

We would like to thank ALL our lovely respite partners and our wonderful fundraisers for making this happen. HOWEVER despite our record breaking year, we still end 2014 with a waiting list of more deserving families desperate for some time away from cancer.
