Set up by a team of cycling enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Bike 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.
We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. cycling) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
On the 12 July 2017 Nigel will set off on his epic Ark to Arc challenge leaving from the Ark Cancer Centre in Basingstoke and cycling to Porstmouth before getting the overnight ferry to Caen in aid of Bike 4 Cancer and the Ark Cancer Centre Charity.
Nigel will then spend a further 3 days in the saddle cycling from Caen to Alencon and then onto Evreux finally finishing in Paris!
"Picture the scene - I am sat at home minding my own business and my wife returns from a networking event with the news that she was going to ride to Paris and raise funds for the Ark Cancer Centre charity. I knew she hadnβt been drinking as she had driven, so investigating further it turned out that she had willingly volunteered to do the event. After picking myself off the floor I asked her to go and get her bike from the garage, on which she replied, βWhat Bikeβ?
At that moment, I was to be the sacrificial lamb and was signed up immediately the next day and I couldnβt be prouder to do my bit.
I have lost family members and friends parents to this terrible disease and have witnessed first-hand the devastating effects that it causes not only on the person suffering but also their immediate families.
This is my chance to contribute by raising well needed funds and a great opportunity to raise awareness of the Ark Cancer Centre Charity and Bike 4 Cancer, who do a great job in providing relief from the difficulties of living with cancer for people who live in and around my home town.
Please show your support and give generously - thank you."
