Set up by a team of cycling enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Bike 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.
We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. cycling) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
On the 12 July 2017 James will set off on his epic Ark to Arc challenge leaving from the Ark Cancer Centre in Basingstoke and cycling to Porstmouth before getting the overnight ferry to Caen in aid of Bike 4 Cancer and the Ark Cancer Centre Charity.
James will then spend a further 3 days in the saddle cycling from Caen to Alencon and then onto Evreux finally finishing in Paris!
"I volunteered to fill in and sign up (in a moment of madness) when unfortunately, someone dropped out. A late starter but hopefully not a late arrival in Paris, we shall see.
I am not a cyclist, I am however both vertically and geographically challenged so it will be quite a feat if I arrive in Paris. I am going to have to pedal twice as hard to keep up with the others and if I don’t I will surely get lost!
So why would I take on such a challenge? The Ark Centre is a wonderful project and one I am proud to raise funds for. My brother had bowel cancer that eventually took him at far too early an age and I will ride in his memory and honour. This centre needs to be built to help people through their treatment and to make their difficult journey a bit easier, but also to give them hope because it can be beaten. Please donate as much as you can and let’s get it built."
Thank you for your support x
